December 2003 I just wanted you to know how happy I am with my new puppy from you. This makes the second puppy that I have bought from you that I have been hunting over at 5 months of age. Heide & Brandy were pointing their own birds, honoring and retrieving at 5 months. Both are out of your E.T. female, but different male dogs. Thanks, Rod Goff - Jewell, Kansas
Dear Lynn and Craig, Thought I would drop you a short note to tell you how pleased we are with our Kate. She is an absolute lady in our home and very affectionate. Our grandchildren love to play with her and she loves all the attention. She has also become a good watchdog. She barks when she hears a car in the driveway or a voice she doesn't recognize. You are well aware that at eleven months she was well disciplined, held tight on birds and retrieved to hand. She continues to improve in each of these areas and I am really looking forward to hunting with here this upcoming season. When the time is right you can rest assured we will be contacting you for another puppy as we are very happy with our Kate. Our very best to both of you. Sincerely, Chuck and Arlene Albrecht -
Montauk, New York June 2004 I just thought I would drop you a line. I was looking up hunt test dates and i came across your website. When i bought those 3 male studs from you; you showed me a liver and speckeled dog and you said that you were going to breed her. I asked you if I could have one of the females, at that time. And you said that these would be around $600 I was wondering if you have bread her yet and if so do I still have a female spoken for. On an other note all 3 of those males are great. John Honore has one and dad and I have the other two. My brother and I hunted the two (Jake and Elwood) in early december the last time we hunted together. We were both very happy with both of them, we shot 13 quail and 3 phesants over them that day. Although they didn't give me a total retrive to the hand all birds but 2 were retrieved within 1-4 feet of us. I think that they will be even better than Kate the first dog my dad bought from you. Just wanted to tell you about your dogs. Thanks, Nick Colson July 2004
Hey there!
I took Gus out
for the first time Monday on real birds (forest grouse), he did awesome!
He hunted hard
all day, I couldn't believe it... and it was a pretty warm day (80 degrees or
so).
He had a little
bit of a hard time with the grouse and knowing when to back off and point them
but he found so many birds, it was incredible. We flushed about a dozen birds
in 3 hours. He would usually start trailing a bird and 20 yards or so in
front of him it would flush. A lot of times after the bird flushed he would
come back to that general area and go on point.
I emailed Kirby and he said it just takes experience for a dog to learn how to handle grouse vs.. pheasants. I was really happy with Gus and everyone with me was blown away by his nose, drive in the field and the knack he had for finding birds. He also found all our birds after we shot them, one of them way up underneath a pile of dead logs and sticks. My friends had a lab and a chessie and their dogs were tired after the first hunt but Gus kept going all day long. I noticed last night that his paws were pretty raw though and had some cuts on them. I cleaned them up with some peroxide, I hope they heal up quickly, they look really painful. Any suggestions on how to treat raw pads? My buddy with the Chessie is getting a fully trained and broke English setter from his uncle in Topeka Kansas, Gus and that dog should make a good duo. His uncle is big into field trials and this setter apparently gets really low on point which the judges don't like so he's giving it to him for that reason. I wish I could remember his name, he's a retired Vet out there in Kansas and I guess he's pretty well known in the field trial circles for treating gun dogs, you'd probably know him if I had the name. Anyway, I just thought I'd give you a Gus update. I'm so happy with him, he is a real pleasure to watch in the field and a nice dog to be around when I'm at home.
Thank you for
the information. It sure is nice to know what his history is. He is a big
old brute, when I go out to do bird work with the local GSP club, Gus looks
down at all the other dogs! Oh, by the way, I taught Gus how to swim (we
have a lake across the street) and he is an absolute maniac when it comes to
water retrieving. Actually, since it's been so hot this summer I do all his
conditioning at the lake, tossing the dummy for 20-30 minutes at a time. He
really jumps out there and hits the water hard, better than the labs that
I've hunted with even. When I first got him he would try and swim with his
front paws above the water.. I just got out in the water with him and held
is tail up and after two days he was swimming like a pro.
Gus is such a nice dog though, eager to please with the right amount of independence. Working with him is a real joy. Thanks again, I really appreciate it!
PS, my
brother will be looking for a trained GSP probably next spring and he wants
to get a GSP "Just like Gus" as he says. Do you sell trained dogs too or
just the puppies?

Hey Craig, just thought I'd
let you know I took Gus out since our pheasant season finally opened.
Long story short is he just
tore it up! He kept getting better and better everyday. We had never had
such good shooting, he was awesome, the best dog I've ever seen hunting or
hunted with. He would really nail his birds.
He hunts so hard, he doesn't
want to stop. I had been running him 6-8 miles a day for the past few
months so he was in really good shape.
Talk to you later!

Craig and Lynn- I just wanted to drop you a line and tell
you how well Zeke is doing. We were shooting birds over him by 5-6 months
and he has been impressing me ever since. He has been a natural at honoring
and retrieving from the opening day of pheasant season. We recently passed
our AKC Junior Hunt Test title in four attempts, just after turning one year
old. Well done on the breeding of this fine pup. Zeke took his hunt
test and went 4 for 4 with a total of Clint Standing @ stud merritt@pld.com April 2009 Craig |
